What is there to glean from this realm?
What sense and direction is inherent in this plane;
Where the air gets cloggier by the day,
And morals blurrier by the hour;
Where so much is known, but very little is used or understood?
Really, what are we doing,
Sacrificing long-term health for short-term convenience and luxury?
It is said that the pen is mightier than the sword;
But still as some spill ink over paper, others spill blood over lands.
The pen is used to do exactly what the sword did so barbarically – civilised savagery.
The poor are robbed, the minority maligned, the public misinformed,
The ignorant oppressed rather than taught, the weak controlled.
It was never about which was mightier, the pen or the sword.
But who held them, the pen and the sword.
It was never about which was more humane, the pen or the sword;
But where the hearts of the wielders lay, with compassion or destruction.
So as I hold this pen, I’m forced to consider,
Indeed the pen is mightier than the sword.
But it’s not really about the pen
But we who so skillfully wield it.
“…it’s not really about the pen
But we who so skillfully wield it.”
I’m glad you wield this particular pen. Hold on to it tightly
